Incredibiz vs Wave vs Zoho Invoice (2026): Which Free Plan Actually Fits You?

Updated July 2026 · 8-minute read · Written by Incredibiz's founder — bias declared, then controlled for
Short answer: Wave if you send 30+ invoices a month and want accounting attached. Zoho Invoice if you're already inside Zoho's ecosystem. Incredibiz if you're a one-person or small team business that wants quotes, pipeline, projects and invoicing in one place instead of three subscriptions. Full working below.

Yes, we make one of these three. That would normally disqualify the comparison — so here's the control: every claim below is checkable on the vendors' public pricing pages, we say plainly where each competitor beats us, and we tell you who should not pick Incredibiz. Judge the fairness for yourself.

Where Wave beats us

Volume, full stop. If you invoice 40 clients monthly, our 15-invoice free cap means paying R129 while Wave stays free — and Wave's bookkeeping is genuinely competent, with receipt scanning and bank feeds (in supported countries) that we don't pretend to match. If your business is invoices-and-books and nothing else, Wave is the rational choice and we'd rather you pick it than resent us.

Where Zoho beats us

Maturity and breadth. Fifteen years of development shows: customer portals, deep template customisation, multi-language invoices. If your business already runs on Zoho Mail or CRM, adding Zoho Invoice is frictionless. The price you pay isn't money — it's living inside a 50-app ecosystem whose every screen suggests a 51st.

Where Incredibiz wins

The space around the invoice. In Wave and Zoho Invoice, the deal you're chasing, the quote you sent, the project you're delivering and the invoice you'll raise live in different tools (or different Zoho products, each with its own bill). In Incredibiz, the pipeline card becomes a quote, the accepted quote becomes an invoice, and the project tracks against the same customer — one login, one free plan. For a one-person business, that's the difference between admin evenings and a 40-second invoice.

Decision framework

  1. Over 30 invoices a month, mostly repeat billing? → Wave. Volume is its game.
  2. Already paying for Zoho anything? → Zoho Invoice. Zero-friction addition.
  3. Quote-first business (design, trades, consulting, agencies)? → Incredibiz. The quote-to-invoice-to-project chain is the product.
  4. Need built-in card collection today? → Wave or Square, honestly. Ours is on the roadmap; theirs is the business model.
  5. South African? → Incredibiz (VAT-native, Rand-native, SA payment rails) — Wave's best features don't reach SA.

The bottom line

All three free plans are genuinely usable — the era of crippled trials is over. The real question is which catch suits you: our volume cap, Wave's payment-fee gravity, or Zoho's ecosystem pull. Count your invoices, look at what surrounds them, and pick accordingly. If that points at us: the free plan is here, no card needed, and everything in this article is testable in ten minutes.
